Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

There is nothing tougher than having loved ones that live in other parts of the world and not being able to communicate with them. It’s even harder if the reason for the lack of communication is due to high international calling rates.

Vonage has the perfect solution! Vonage Unlimited International Calling Plans are just what they sound like. It’s a way to pay a flat monthly rate and be able to make as many international calls as you want! This works by adding a small monthly rate to the Residential Premium Unlimited Plan.

Vonage, On The Grow

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Vonage finished out the 2007 year with a strong fourth quarter. Revenue increased a solid 19 percent. This has been mainly due to an increase in subscribers.

Despite having a tough year with lawsuits which required Vonage to cut back in their marketing department, Vonage’s customer base has risen impressively. Adding over 55,000 subscribers in the last quarter along, Vonage now provides VoIP service to about 2.6 million customers.

With the legal slate now clear, there are hopes to add customers at an even faster rate this year. More space for advertising and new product design will fuel this goal. Vonage still remains constant with the same low rates that they have offered in the past helping them remain the #1 rated digital phone service.

V-Portal Router

Monday, January 21st, 2008

With the close of legal issues, Vonage is now moving ahead, able to focus more on product development and other important projects. One of the first products that has come out is the V-Portal router.

Until now, Vonage has used and sold routers from Motorola and Cisco. With the development of their own router, Vonage is now able to increase customer service and usability. Sold for only $9.99 (after rebates), the new V-Portal router is very affordable and convenient.

An interesting feature the V-Portal router is that, unlike other routers, it has a screen which displays problems that the router might me experiencing. Now instead of trying to decode and understand confusing lighting schemes, your router will just simply tell you what’s wrong when a problem presents itself.

The V-Portal is a new kind of router designed for easier use and higher compatibility and reliability.

Legal Wrap-up

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

With the settlement of Nortel, Vonage has cleared the list of lawsuits primarily focused on patent infringement. They have been involved in a lawsuits since mid 2006.

Verizon was the first to claim patent infringement. Vonage acknowledged the lawsuit on June 19, 2006. Verizon claimed infringement on 7 patents, but Vonage was ultimately charged with only 3 of them. The lawsuit was grueling and the original settlement was crushing. Appealed by Vonage, a much lighter verdict was later reached allowing the company to push on.

AT&T also sued Vonage for patent infringement. Although not quite as painful a lawsuit, it still took much focus away from current company projects to continue growth. Not long after the settlement of the AT&T suit, Sprint took the opportunity to get in a few punches. Even bankrupted SunRocket tried to sue for issues concerning their abandoned customer list. Nortel was the last suit.

After clearing out all of these lawsuits, the company is ready to move on and has already released several new products and services. Even through all the rough water, Vonage’s customer base has grown considerably, but not quite as much as hoped for.

Vonage chairman Jeffrey Citron stated that the suits were just a successful strategy to slow Vonage down. With all the smoke cleared, Citron says that Vonage will be able to come out with new features and capabilities every few months.

Nortel Settlement

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

Vonage and Nortel have come to an agreement settling their lawsuit concerning patent infringement. The suit with Nortel is the last on Vonage’s list. Closing out this last lawsuit, Vonage has a clean slate and big plans. It looks like the company will increase in productivity and focus more on important internal goals.

The Vonage-Nortel suit wrapped up rather nicely. Neither side had to produce a monetary settlement therefore not causing damage to either company. As a matter of fact, both companies stock went up 11 cents shortly after the settlement.

The settlement itself declares that Vonage and Nortel will share the rights to certain patents. Vonage and Nortel will each share the rights to 3 patents. Presumably a good move for both companies, Vonage feels like they will be able to move forward with important projects without further delay.

Chatting With Vonage

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Now communicating with Vonage is easier than ever! Whether it be technical difficulties or other questions, getting solutions can be done right over the internet.

Vonage announced last month that it will now be possible to chat online with their customer service employees. That means that customers will be able to easily contact Vonage and quickly get answers to their questions.

This new feature will speed up the time it takes to get solutions by eliminating the need to go through a long automated telephone call to finally get to a real person. It will also eliminate the need to find a phone to call Vonage in the case of technical difficulties of your home or business line. Since communication is the key to solving most problems, Vonage online chat will be a great feature for customers to save them time, money, and frustration.

Vonage - AT&T Settlement?

Friday, November 9th, 2007

It looks like the Vonage v AT&T conflict is nearing an agreement. A rather favorable agreement at that. Vonage has stated that the deal being discussed would require a $39 million dollar settlement from the VoIP company to AT&T. Luckily, if this deal goes through, Vonage will only pay a small fraction of what they have paid to settle other suits with Verizon, Sprint, etc.

The best part about this settlement for Vonage is that the $39 million dollars will be able to be paid over a 5 year period. This will avoid drying up the cash assets of the company keeping them in cool water.

As a part of this deal Vonage would drop it’s lawsuit against AT&T. This will put an end to the long series of lawsuits Vonage has been involved in. With such a lenient deal, Vonage would be able to continue operations as normal.

Vonage has fought with fury against all of it’s competitors’ lawsuits and has come out much better in most of them than originally anticipated. Although things look very optimistic with the potential AT&T settlement, if things fall through, Vonage is ready to defend itself again.

Vonage Legal Update: Vonage, Sprint, Verizon, AT&T

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Two weeks ago, Vonage settled the Sprint lawsuit over patent infringement. They agreed on an $80 million dollar settlement. A nice chunk of money thinning out Vonages assets, but very minimal compared to the other possible outcomes.

Now things are finally starting to settle down with the long Verizon battle. Vonage has agreed to pay Verizon for patent infringement, but the amount is not yet set in stone. Depending on the Appeals Court, Vonage will pay a minimum of $80 million up to almost $120 million to the communications giant. This again is a large sum of money, but probably not enough to cause any severe problems for Vonage.

Now only one lawsuit remains. That’s with AT&T. If this lawsuit is settled like the previous ones, Vonage will be able to avoid bankruptcy and therefore stay in business. The next few months will be an interesting and important time for Vonage. AT&T just filed their suit against Vonage about a week ago. Once through this things look to be smooth sailing.

Vonage’s Prices

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

In the midst of all that is happening in the VoIP industry right now, many people are asking if Vonage is going to raise it’s rates. Even the major cable companies that are now providing VoIP are not offering prices that even come close to competing with Vonage. In all reality, Vonage could raise their rates quite a bit, and still be the best deal out there.

But despite all that has happened, Vonage’s first concern has always been their customers. That’s why Vonage has been a constant service, offering reliable service at constant prices. Even though Vonage could raise prices and make more money, they won’t. For now their great low rates are locked in.

Right now, with these great rates, it’s cheaper than ever to make as many calls as you want! Vonage offers unlimited local and long distance for a set low price of only $24.99/month. Right now, with this plan, the first month comes free. There are no hidden charges and these prices do not go up. Now is the time to join the over 2 million people who are enjoying Vonage service! Never pay an outrageous phone bill again!

A Huge Boost in Vonage Sales Due to SunRocket Shut-Down

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

This week marked a victory for Vonage. Since the shut-down of SunRocket last Monday, Vonage sales have soared. Despite the fact that SunRocket promoted 2 other companies to their customers (Packet 8 Phone Service & TeleBlend), many former SunRocket customers have made the switch to Vonage.

The Tuesday and Wednesday after SunRocket’s power down, Vonage picked up an amazing 11,000 new customers. Things went great in just the first 2 days, and continue to go well even until now. Vonage is pleased that so many people have been able to make the switch to their service and enjoy the reliability and features that come with it. It has been a victorious week at Vonage.

For now it looks like sales will remain above normal. For people that have not yet switched over from SunRocket, they will have until August 5th to do so. On that day, SunRocket will shut down all operation. Vonage is still offering a special promotion to customers who switch over now. To take advantage of this great opportunity, act now. This special promotion can be found here. The promotion includes 2 months of free service.
