Connection Problems using Vonage?

February 23rd, 2010

I am wondering why I keep losing my internet connection from time to time using the Vonage system. What could be the source of the problem? How can I keep the connection without the problem to keep resetting and unplugging the Vonage adapter?

There are a lot of reasons and factors that affect the connection outage once you plug in the Vonage Adapter. But it is not always that only when using Vonage you’ll be having those connection problems. Some ISP’s or Internet Service Provider will tend to delegate the internet connection to some degree that it will be available to all users, especially those that need it most. It is not Vonage that keeps cutting your internet connection. Go check first with your ISP and then go to your Vonage account. If you are downloading some files like music and movies, better pause that first or stop them momentarily and check your connection. But it would be better that while you are using Vonage. The best thing with Vonage is that it allows you to reduce the amount of bandwidth it uses.

There are also other factors to be considered. Check everything first. Are you losing the total connection or just the Vonage connection? Maybe you have wireless issues. Are you using Wireless-G/N Router? Are you using cordless phones? – You can also check the equipment like if you have corded or cordless phones (1.9/2.4/5.8 GHz phones).

It will help you if you check first the service and the equipment configuration so can arrive in complete and detailed solutions in diagnosing the connection problems that you are experiencing.

Vonage…Best Value for your Money

February 23rd, 2010

When looking for the best VoIP service and the best value for money, what is the most I can have for $25 a month? With unlimited calls all over the world and added benefits such as 24/7 access to your billing information using your online account and quick access to local emergency services with its 911 dialing feature. What is the bets service there is? I have found this perks form Vonage. Vonage routes your phone calls over the Internet using Voice over Internet Protocol, rather than telephone lines. All you need is a standard phone, a high speed internet access and a Vonage Phone adapter and you’re all set. Setting up is very easy and in no time you will have unlimited time calling.

Here’s how it works:

The Vonage Phone adapter can connect up to 2 Vonage lines through your pre-existing high-speed Cable or DSL Internet connection and includes a VoIP networking router. It’s great for all your phone and routing needs. Just plug it into your existing broadband connection and use the two standard telephone jacks to connect your existing phones or fax machine. It has a user friendly LCD display with caller ID and call timer. All you need to do is just plug in the power supply, plug in your phone, and connect it to your broadband line. You’ll hear a dial tone and be ready to make calls in minutes. What’s more, this Vonage V-Portal or the phone adapter is lightweight and portable. You can carry this anywhere. Just plug it in any internet connection and connect a phone and make calls all you want.

Vonage Could Change your Lifestyle

February 21st, 2010

My best friend and I have used Vonage for almost 3 years and we are very happy with it, thanks to its great features.

The basic rate for the first line is only $25. Each additional line is only $10 more, which is very cost-effective. I have been very satisfied with this VoIP provider. Here are some advantages that stand out:

First of all, the sound quality is excellent. Before I got the service, I wondered how the sound quality was going to compare to other phone services. My friends told me that I sounded garbled when i called them. This may be because of issues with my old router, which I replaced 11 months ago. I have not had any issues since then.

With Vonage, I believe the quality of the call is better than a land-based phone line. The sound of my voice is distinct even with talking or TV noise in the background. I can call my friends abroad…they no longer sound a miles away due to intermittent signal or signal loss. I never get a bad connection now and sometimes, in those rare occasions I get static in the afternoon in Egypt, but I believe that the problem is their telecommunication company.

If you have friends abroad, I believe that this service is a must-have.

Vonage Connection Speed Recommendations

January 30th, 2010

I was talking with my uncle on the phone last weekend. He lives in a fairly remote part of Arizona. During the course of our conversation he asked me if his internet connection would support Vonage, after all, your internet providers service is likely subpar if you live in the boonies.

I decided to do a little research. First I had him run a free speed test at vonage-promotions.com/speedtest/. He said he was getting about 2 Mbps down and .5 Mbps up. I read up on what is recommended and found that the minimum Vonage requirement is 30 Kbps, BUT the recommended speed is 90 Kbps.

NOTE this is the upstream recommendation. Downstream means data coming to your computer from a server and upstream is how fast data can go from your computer a server. Uploading is typically slower than downloading, so pay close attention when running your speedtest. In short, most DSL or cable internet connections will work fine with Vonage. If your still using dial-up for some reason, upgrade you internet connection before trying Vonage.

In the end, I told my uncle that Vonage should work well with his internet service and to give it a try.

A New Year Is Upon Us!

December 29th, 2009

Hello all, a new year is upon us once more and it’s that time where we all start thinking of new year’s resolutions. How’d that go for everybody last year by the way? If you’re anything like me, you did great . . . til the end of January at least! With the difficult financial times lurking, no doubt many of you, like me, will set a goal to be more frugal spenders.

Fortunately for everyone, being more frugal does not always have to be painful. Saving money means a lot more than simply penny pinching and denying yourself of every last thing you want. In a nutshell, the way I see it, being frugal means spending your money wisely. Last year my wife and I switched from a regular land line to VoIP. We saved about $30 a month and made a lot more calls than usual. Guess what, it was easy as heck to do it all year, unlike many resolution plans. I just spent the money we saved this year on a beautiful vintage guitar. So you see, frugality doesn’t mean not spending any money. It means saving where possible so you have money to spend! Even better, you don’t have to feel guilty when you do!

This year Vonage will help families all over the place get a little closer to achieving their financial goals. Saving over $300 a year goes a long way! It’s rare to find more-for-less products and services these days, especially ones that will help you achieve your goals. So sign up for Vonage as you prepare this year’s resolutions. And above all, have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Cell Phone Carriers are Evil

December 19th, 2009

Several months ago I wrote about an evil cell phone carrier. In a nut shell I went over my minutes (only time I ever did) and they charged me an extra $70. To get the specifics you can read my post Cell Phones vs. VoIP.

Well it has been a while since that incident and I thought I’d give a quick follow up. My wife and I got VoIP installed quickly after. I mean, you really can’t beat unlimited calls for $24.99/month. We also switched cell phone carriers out of ire. Guess how many problems we’ve had with VoIP so far. Zero.

As a matter of fact, since we make so many calls from home as opposed to on the run, we were able to downsize our cell phone plan. Now between the two of us, we’re only using about 300 minutes a month on our cells. VoIP has allowed us to significantly cut down our phone bills.

I highly recommend getting a Vonage home line to anybody that want to cut down cell phone usage. It saves a lot of money and hassle with robotic cell phone carrier customer representatives.

Best Internet Phone Company

December 14th, 2009

Vonage has hit the news already this week with the announcement of being United Kingdom’s ‘Best Consumer VoIP Service’. The award came from the Internet Telephone Service Provider Association Awards on Monday.

It’s not really surprising that Vonage took the gold. The thriving VoIP company has managed to maintain their current prices for years while continually expanding upon and creating new features. $24.99 will now carry you farther than ever with free calls to many countries all over the world.

About receiving the award, Vonage said, “What we’ve shown is that for a fair price, customers can receive a service that offers exceptional quality and clarity.” And that is exactly what Vonage does. Their service is crystal clear and the price is competitive with the bottom line low clarity VoIP companies. Congrats to Vonage for closing out 2009 with a bang!

Getting Parents to Switch to VoIP

October 29th, 2009

I was talking to my parents last week. The subject of phone service came up for some reason and I explained that I get unlimited calling in the US and many other countries for $24.99 a month. I asked them how much they were paying for their land line and they said between $70 and $100 a month! I was beside myself! I suggested that they switch to Vonage.

For some reason they seemed reluctant to the idea. I said, “Don’t you guys like saving money?” By the end of the conversation They couldn’t give me a single good reason not to switch to Vonage. Basically it’s something new and that really freaks out the older generation sometimes.

I am still trying to figure out how to get them to switch. I think it will really just come down to explaining how simple it is to set up and use Vonage. The adapter just plugs right into the wall, phone plugs into the adapter and boom, that’s it. Computer doesn’t even need to be on. Heck, you can even keep your old number! Hopefully they come around eventually with some probing. I think it’s our responsibility as VoIP lovers to help all of our parents, grandparents, etc see the light!

The Vonage Trend

October 27th, 2009

I was thinking the other day that I’ve put up with a lot of companies that seem to get progressively worse over time. For example the gym where I have a membership. I’ve been a customer there for two years now. They required a two year contract. So after two years of being a loyal customer, the contract is up. I was assuming I would then be able to go to a month to month agreement, but no! They told me I have to sign another contract to keep my membership!

What’s even worse is there was no price reduction or anything else. They just fed me some bull crap about how they couldn’t handle their operating costs if they cut prices for loyal customers. Well I happen to know that is a bold faced lie. I studied business in college and I understand their business model and costs.

That is one thing I love about Vonage, they treat their customers how loyal customers deserve to be treated. I’m always amazed that Vonage continually improves their product and maintains the same price. I mean, how many companies do you know of that does that? It makes me feel safe using Vonage. I feel like I can trust them. The new Vonage World Plan is just another affirmation that I made the right choice switching to VoIP.

Cell Phones vs VoIP

May 14th, 2009

I recently moved into a new apartment with my wife (we just got married a few months ago). We each have a different cell phone carrier and we are both still under contract. I do not use the phone very often and neither does she, so we figured we’d live on our cell phones until we buy a house in a year or so, then we would install Vonage.

Well, let me take a minute to tell you what a terrible idea that was. I received a phone call from my evil cell phone carrier the other day. I’ll leave them nameless because they truly are evil, and in an already suffering economy, I don’t want my very important opinion to bankrupt this company. The lady on the phone told me that I was about to reach my monthly limit which was astonishing to me! She informed me that there was a $.45 per minute charge which I already knew.

Then she said, “Let me pull up your account.” She pulled it up and stated that I was actually already 100 minutes over my monthly limit. As if that weren’t bad enough, she then persisted to try to get me to upgrade my phone plan so it wouldn’t happen again. This isn’t the first time they’ve done this either.

So the phone bill rolls in. What usually costs me $55 a months was $121! What a rip off. I was actually in such disbelief that I downloaded a spreadsheet of all my calls and did some analysis on it. I found that a lot of my longer calls were actually from home. If I had Vonage Unlimited, I would have paid significantly less this month in overall phone bills.

After doing some spreadsheet analysis I learned that a large amount of my phone calls we 2 minute phone calls. Usually when I make a call I go right over a minute. Doing this a few times a day adds up quick since 1 minute and 1 second is a 2 minute call. As a systems major I know that it would be extremely easy to track each call in minutes and seconds then add everything up for the monthly bill, but the truth is, cell phone companies hate you. I can’t wait to get VoIP.

Ironically enough, my cell phone company sued Vonage a few years ago. Conspiracy?
