Is there a difference between the 2? I know Skype is only $29.95 a year while Vonage is $25 a month. There is a big difference in price? Which one can replaces a landline phone and be reliable as a landline phone?

I have a Skype and a Vonage service and although I use them both for making calls, the difference is quite obvious! They differ much in prices because they also vary in the services. Skype is also internet based calling but it is software installed on your phone, and it still relies on your computer, whereas the Vonage service is hardware or a hard phone connected to the internet. So basically, hardware is different from software. If the Skype software is not compatible on your PC, it certainly will not work out.

High Quality Vonage Phone Service

I’m thinking about switching to Vonage for my home phone service? I’ve read that the quality of the sound isn’t all that good. But I’ve also read that it is on par with regular copper wire phone service?

It works fine in terms of voice quality however there are instances when the service stops due to internet connection and then you got to trouble shoot and all. I think that the voice quality from the voice data traveling over the internet would not be really good because they have to go far distances and as they go they lose their quality. You might as well go to your phone and check it rather than turning on your computer, connecting to the internet and then checking your voice mail. There’s also this scenario where the satellite could fail and that means the service is gone and a lot of other things. The sound may break up if you are not near the base, say within 20 feet, if you are not near the base.

But in totality, the service is as good as your internet connection. If you have problems like static background and gargling-like audio, you might think like changing your ISP and compare the results. Anyway Vonage has great features like if the net goes down, it automatically forwards all your call to your mobile phone until service is back on. And on top of that you don’t have to worry about long distance either. One thing you need to be making sure is you set up the 911 dialing properly.

Connection Problems using Vonage?

I am wondering why I keep losing my internet connection from time to time using the Vonage system. What could be the source of the problem? How can I keep the connection without the problem to keep resetting and unplugging the Vonage adapter?

There are a lot of reasons and factors that affect the connection outage once you plug in the Vonage Adapter. But it is not always that only when using Vonage you’ll be having those connection problems. Some ISP’s or Internet Service Provider will tend to delegate the internet connection to some degree that it will be available to all users, especially those that need it most. It is not Vonage that keeps cutting your internet connection. Go check first with your ISP and then go to your Vonage account. If you are downloading some files like music and movies, better pause that first or stop them momentarily and check your connection. But it would be better that while you are using Vonage. The best thing with Vonage is that it allows you to reduce the amount of bandwidth it uses.

There are also other factors to be considered. Check everything first. Are you losing the total connection or just the Vonage connection? Maybe you have wireless issues. Are you using Wireless-G/N Router? Are you using cordless phones? – You can also check the equipment like if you have corded or cordless phones (1.9/2.4/5.8 GHz phones).

Vonage Could Change your Lifestyle

My best friend and I have used Vonage for almost 3 years and we are very happy with it, thanks to its great features.
